Ternium contributes with educational enrichment for young people

An educational visits program sponsored by Ternium was started in Monterrey, México at Museo del Acero Horno 3 (Steel Museum Furnace 3) targeting junior high school, high school and technical school students to promote industrial vocation.

Ternium along with the Steel Museum presented this educational visits program to 300 teachers from the Universidad Tecnológica (University of Technology) and the Preparatoria Técnica Álvaro Obregón (Alvaro Obregon Technical High School). The commitment to this program is for 5 years and will expect the participation of 30,000 students per year.

This program, implemented under the sponsorship of Ternium, has no cost for attendees. The program is an opportunity for complementing academic and cultural activities, contributing to young peoples' educational process.

The pilot group participating was comprised by more than 250 students from the Universidad Tecnológica de Santa Catarina (Technological University of Santa Catarina), more than 500 attendees are expected for next week.

The Steel Museum Furnace 3 Science and Technology Center, is located in the structure of blast furnace 3 within the Parque Funidora (Fundidora Park) where the Iron and Steel Company “Fundidora Monterrey”, the first steel company in Latin America, was established up to 1986 when its productive activities were finalized.

The museum facilities allow them to interact, explore and experiment with science and technology, participating in the phenomena of physics, chemistry, and mechanics, among others. This interactive museum favors curiosity, through a journey across time: From the birth of the steel industry in Mexico, living the steel production process along with the people who have left their mark in this industry.

By enrolling students from different institutions, a richer education and the development of scientific reasoning skills is guaranteed. The program includes:

  • Mexico seen through steel, a journey through time. The students walk in the History Gallery from the birth of the steel industry in Mexico, to the present day, living the steel production process along with the people who have left their mark in this industry.
  • The Steel Mill, a dynamic experience. Students will have the opportunity to live an industrial process with interactive exhibits that will expand their scientific and technological knowledge.
  • Furnace 3 Show; the awakening of the sleeping giant. Amazing special effects where students will learn about the operation of a blast furnace. Reviving its operation with a sound and light show.
  • Workshops and demonstrations. Building one's own knowledge in science. Exploration and experiences are two of the fundamentals in the scientific method; this is the main part on which students build their own knowledge.

Teachers watch a colleague playing with one of the Steel Museum´s interactive games where electrical energy is produced by riding a bicycle.
