Mining plant in Aquila, Michoacán is inaugurated

The Executive President of Ternium in Mexico and the Governor of the State unveiled the plaque for the Aquila Plant New Generation, a project with an investment of 27 million dollars to adapt the iron ore processing capacity.

Guests of Ternium traveled more than 135 kilometers (between the highway and dirt road) from Colima to arrive at the Aquila Mine’s new crushing and preconcentration plant, which was inaugurated Saturday, November 6.

In the presence of more than 100 attendees, Leonel Godoy, Governor of Michoacán, accompanied by Julián Eguren, Executive President of Ternium in Mexico, inaugurated the project by pressing the power button and unveiling the Aquila Plant New Generation plaque.

During the inaugural celebration where Carlos Domínguez, Director of Mining Development presented to the officials, Julián Eguren expressed: “Our operations begin in our mines; the mineral extracted is transformed into steel for our industrial clients in the nation. With this, for those who work in Ternium it is a very important event, an investment of almost 30 million dollars that confirms the long-term commitments of Ternium in the region and with Mexico.”

For his part, Leonel Godoy stated: “We are very pleased that Ternium completed this project, in spite of the serious economic situation we are facing, to allow for economic development in this country. It is valuable that they are investing to produce more and with great quality.”

The inauguration allowed for the start of an industrial project that consisted of relocating the plant within the Aquila Mine to a new area in order to take advantage of the mineral reserves under its location. At the same time, adding the crushing and preconcentration capacity through a dry magnetic system for proper utilization of iron ore based on the law, and maintaining production capacity.

The facilities include primary, secondary and tertiary crushing for size reduction, as well as magnetic pulleys and cobbers for the preconcentration of the mineral. It is then transported to the pelletizing plant in Alzada, municipality of Cuauhtémoc, in Colima.

For a year and a half the plant assembly and construction took place, with a maximum of 400 people participating in it. The structure is located in the municipality of Aquila, which has a population of 12,000.

Also attending the event were Ternium directors from different areas, as well as como José Cortes Ramos, President of the Municipality of Aquila; the Secretaries of the State of Michoacá—Catalina Rosas, Secretary of Urbanism, and Environment and Isidoro Ruíz, Secretary of Economic Development; and the Deputy of the District XXI Coalcomán Francisco Campos.
