Representatives from Renault visit plants in Argentina

The automaker is working on the design of a national car to be made with Ternium steel.

The days of January 27 and 28 representatives of Renault from France, Brazil and Argentina visited Argentine plants in the cities of San Nicolás, Ensenada and Florencio Varela. The visit, part of a commercial mission for the automaker in the Mercosur, allowed for familiarization with the facilities in which the steel is produced that will be used in production of the new model launching in October.

With respect to the visit, Christophe Pédarré, of Renault in France, commented that the Ternium facilities in Argentina are, “At a level that I know in Europe.” Coinciding with him was Daniel Del Toro, Purchasing manager for Renault Argentina, who emphasized, “We had an excellent level of response on the part of the company to all our questions.”

The automaker is working on the design of the national automobile that will be produced at the terminal of Córdoba with Ternium steel. With this project, “Ternium could become the principal provider to Renault in Argentina,” explained Santiago Lesser, of the Commercial area. “This implies the consumption of 400 tonnes of steel sheet monthly directly for Renault and indirect consumption of autopart clients that make parts of the model,” mentioned Antonio Cristiani, of the Commercial area.

Currently, while Ternium continues the process of sending sample materials for tests, Renault is readying its Córdoba plant for the production capacity. At the same time, Ternium is working on the nationalization of pieces for other models from the French firm.
