Six frequently asked questions about Steel Framing

Share

Due to its innovative features, steel framing sparks interest as well as enquiries. These are the most frequent questions asked by users and some basic information to answer them.

1. “Is it more expensive to build using Steel Framing?”

On the contrary! Projects cost between 8% and 10% less as compared to brick construction. Besides, waste during work is remarkably lower since exact calculations are made as to how much material will be used, thus making the most of it.

2. “It is possible to make further modifications or extensions?”

This system is created from a steel structure that can be adapted to any new project or extension. It is flexible and can be combined with other construction methods whether wet or dry. In fact, many housing constructions are planned in stages.

3. “Can pictures or cupboards be hung on walls made with Steel Framing?”

Of course! Heavy objects are held onto walls with special dowels for plaster plates. If the element weighs more than 15 kg, it must be fixed on the profiles that make up the structure of the wall. In order to find them, A magnet or A metal detector IS used.

4. “Can there be damp problems?”

Dry construction avoids most usual damp and mold foundation problems. In areas with moderate humidity and where pipes are located (bathrooms, kitchens and laundry rooms), green plates are used. They can be coated with all kinds of finishes.

5. “Is this system effective for sound insulation?”

Many people think that walls with steel framing are hollow because of the noise perceived when they are hit and, thus making them less insulated. Yet the opposite is the case. These constructions are much more effective than those with other materials, as they contain specific glass wool, mineral wool or cellulose insulation layers that work as thermal and acoustic insulation.

6. “What is the risk of building with Steel Framing in a city that is likely to be affected by earthquakes?”

In comparison with brick construction, risks are near zero. As it doesn’t create solid resistance,  constructions with steel framing can follow earthquake movements without damaging its structure. This is possible thanks to the mounting of its internal structure.
