Steel, recycling that never ends

Share

This World Recycling Day, we share with you some facts you may not know about our source of work: steel.

When we talk about recycling, we rarely think of steel. PET, paper or glass come to mind, but did you know that steel is the most recycled material in the world? And, it is no coincidence: it can be melted over and over without ever losing its properties.

Today, when looking for ways to give things new life and consume fewer resources is increasingly urgent, steel is a pathway to more sustainable industries.

Today is World Recycling Day!

Today is World Recycling Day!

At Ternium, recycling is not a symbolic gesture, but the core of daily operations. In 2023 alone, 2.9 million tons of scrap were recycled and then converted into new steel.

But circularity goes beyond remelting steel: 99.5% efficiency in the use of materials has been achieved, which means that millions of tons of co-products are reused to make cement, fertilizers and many other materials.

On World Recycling Day, we highlight actions that go beyond just recycling and are actually a redesign of the industrial system. Every ton reused contributes to reducing the extraction of raw materials, energy consumption, CO2 emissions and waste generation.

Together we contribute our little grain of steel for a more sustainable world.

Discover more about how we recycle steel and make an efficient use of resources in our Sustainability Report.
