Technology to fight against COVID-19 at the palm of the hand

Share

Ternium stays strong in the combat against the new coronavirus, and last Wednesday, July 29th, put into practice an action to reinforce the care, well-being, health, and safety of its employees. Systems department enabled the operation of the Zapt app, an app designed to warn about social distancing amongst employees at the plant.

The app uses Bluetooth functions to capture the proximity between people that have downloaded and activated the app in their mobile devices. In the case of employees being closer than 2m, the same app will notify them so they can retreat.

“It is technology playing in favor of COVID-19 prevention in Ternium Brazil. This is yet another project that shows how the Systems department is also committed to develop and implement innovative actions necessary to avoid infection and help employees return to their homes in good health”, emphasized Fernando Carrizo, General Manager of Systems.

In the beginning, it will be mandatory only for those employees with a Ternium corporate mobile device and optional for those who wish to download it voluntarily in their own devices.

The initiative against COVID-19 was possible thanks to the Systems area.

Tracking ease

With the Zapt app, it is possible to identify, for example, with whom an infected employee interacted at a distance less than two meters. This information will make it easier, taking steps to isolate and treat each employee. Carrizo adds: “The tool is part of a platform of technological solutions made available by Systems for the caretaking of people working at Ternium. The purpose of the app is to track all nearby contacts within the plant. Before the creation of this tool, determining close contacts of a positive case could take several days. Now it is possible to do so immediately.”

The app can be downloaded at the App Store (for iOS devices) and Play Store (for Android devices).

According to Systems Dept., the app will not map the employees´ movement, since it does not monitor geolocation. It only works through Bluetooth, tracking device-to-device. Following Systems Dept., the app only works within Ternium Brazil´s facilities.

Important: It is forbidden the use any mobile devices for employees undertaking critical functions or those in the operational area. In association with the solution provider, Ternium will provide bracelets trackable by the app. It is expected to have the first lot delivered by August.
