Nakarys Jhoana Escorcia, inhabitant of Palmar de Varela, gladly remembers the first call made by the company in her municipality to work in the new plant. Those who were interested had the opportunity of being trained by the SENA (National Learning Service). They could postulate to vacancies that would open as the project kept progressing.
"The first call for the training was made at a municipal school in 2018. I couldn't go because I studied and worked during the day. My opportunity came in 2019, when the night shift was open. Two years of preparation followed, in which I learned about preventive maintenance, hydraulics, metrology, math, among other topics", Nakarys stated.
After going through the interviews and the recruitment process, she joined the project in 2020 as a Warehouse Assistant in the Logistics Department. A year later, she directly joined the company and was promoted to the Operations Department, under the position of Mill Plant SAP Operator.
"It's been a wonderful experience, I've learned a lot of things I didn't know before. The career plan of the company is great because it gives us the opportunity to grow all the time. We are in constant training. The company gives us a lot of opportunities," she stated.
This young woman, head of household, Sales Technician, and International Physical Distribution Technologist, has worked since very young to provide for her four-year-old son, with the help of her mom and brother, with whom she lives in Palmar de Varela.
"With the pandemic, my mom, who had been a domestic worker, lost her job. Thanks to my income, we could provide for our home. Besides, this job has allowed me to offer my son a better future and quality of life, which is the most important thing for me," she added.
Nakarys says that despite being shy, being a part of the Palmar Project has allowed her to open up and share with other people, be more open-minded, learn about processes from different areas, and participate in various stages of the project. Her Logistics co-workers nicknamed her "little ant" due to her hard work.
Now that she has accomplished a dream for many young people in Palmar, which is working for Ternium, she is planning to reach a new goal: to become a Financial and Foreign Affairs Technologist to continue growing in the company.
