Steel industry professionals from different countries learned about Ternium initiatives that apply technology, robotics and artificial intelligence to operational safety, and visited the Roberto Rocca Technical School in Santa Cruz, Brazil.
Ternium Brazil welcomed the worldsteel Safety and Health Committee to its Industrial Center and the Roberto Rocca Technical School in Santa Cruz. Around 30 steel industry professionals participated in the visit, which promoted the exchange of experiences and best practices in health, safety, innovation and prevention.
“We had the honor of welcoming worldsteel and representatives from companies in Japan, Brazil, South Korea and other countries. The agenda provided a learning opportunity for all of us,” said Titus Schaar, President of Ternium Brazil.
The group brought together representatives from companies and organizations including Alacero, ArcelorMittal, Gerdau, 3M and Acerinox, as well as professionals from Usiminas, Ternium Argentina and Ternium Mexico.
During the visit to the Industrial Center, participants learned about initiatives that show how technology is being used to strengthen risk prevention and operational safety at Ternium Brazil.
At the Emergency Command and Control Center (CCCE), the group learned about one of the pillars of the company’s emergency prevention, preparedness and response strategy. The center integrates continuous monitoring of the facilities, communications management and coordination of response resources to improve agility and effectiveness in incident management.
“The visit was an important opportunity to demonstrate how Ternium is structured and prepared to take a preventive approach to risk management and to respond quickly, efficiently and safely to emergencies,” said Juliano Silva, Fire Department Coordinator.
At the Slab Yard, visitors learned about the Safe Yard project, an initiative that uses a robotic solution to remove operators from a high-risk activity.
“The most important thing was to showcase technology applied to a real operational challenge. And all of this was only possible thanks to the joint efforts of EHS, Systems and Supply. Seeing these areas working together and demonstrating, in practice, the potential of robotics and Artificial Intelligence for the safety of our employees and our operations was a source of great pride.” said Raphael Barreto, from IT.
In addition to the initiatives presented at the Industrial Center, Committee members visited the Roberto Rocca Technical School in Santa Cruz.
The meeting provided an opportunity to share experiences developed by Ternium Brazil and learn about practices adopted by other representatives of the international steel industry. “It reinforced the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing for the continuous improvement of safety across the industry,” said Taís Francisco, from EHS.
