COVID-19

Coronavirus - Comprehensive Management Plan at Ternium

Ternium implemented a comprehensive plan to mitigate coronavirus’ (COVID-19) contagion risk in all its locations, including both industrial and commercial areas. The health and safety of our people, as well as the service offered to our clients, keeps being our primary goal.

This page will be continuously updated to offer information about our response to this rapidly evolving situation.

  • “We have taken decisive measures to protect the health and safety of our employees, customers and suppliers, in addition to steps to ensure the continued strength of our business. These are unsettling times and we are operating under different social and business restrictions in each of our markets, but we are confident that we have the operational flexibility, expertise and financial strength to navigate through them and return to growth once economic activity normalizes.”

Our people’s safety

To guarantee our people’s safety, we have taken the following measures:

  • Teleworking

Teleworking has been implemented for employees that, due to their type of work, can do so, as long as operative continuity is not affected by this.

  • Traveling

All business travels have been suspended, except for visits to low-risk places. We advise against any personal trips to high-risk areas.

  • Social Distancing

We need to respect a social distance of at least one meter between people, in industrial plants, as well as in common places (locker rooms, dining rooms, elevators, etc.), including our personal contractor.

  • Communication

We are regularly communicating the use of best practices for personal hygiene and safe behavior to avoid contagion to all our collaborators and communities where we operate.

Relationship with our clients

We are working closely with our clients, promoting the integral and constant use of WebService, our digital tool that allows virtual and remote access to the entire Ternium business cycle in real time. This includes access to the detail of all orders, payments, delivery plans, among other elements. Through our social networks we are close to our chain of value sharing experiences and good practices, as well as all the preventive measures implemented so that our clients and suppliers can also apply them. Likewise, the programs and trainings were transferred to a virtual format.

Given the uncertainty around the spread of COVID-19 and the imposition of protective measures, it is not possible to predict all the effects that the health crisis may have on our operations and supply chain. We are constantly reviewing orders and remain in close contact with our customers, keeping them up to date about the situation.

Operations’ continuity

We have established crisis management committees in Ternium’s plants to monitor the development of facts related to the virus closely and to implement and adjust action plans when necessary.

READ THE GUIDE: Working safely
  • We have established a full disinfection routine in our factories and facilities. This action includes, for example, regular cleaning of all critical control rooms and workstations.

  • We are maximizing our efforts to limit social contact to avoid contagion. We have established a maximum number of people to each workstation to comply with the recommended social distancing.

  • Dining rooms are arranged to guarantee adequate social distance; we will offer take-out food services as well.

  • Right now, all our industrial operations are regularly working and have not been affected.

  • We are distributing disposable face covers to employees, subject to availability, following recommendations by local authorities and Medical Service.

Supporting our communities

We have launched a support action plan in all the countries where we have a presence to help communities where we operate. We create awareness about the importance of protective measures in the more vulnerable populations and, wherever possible, and to contribute to their labor, supporting hospitals by giving them monitoring and respiratory devices. The company also is helping to support and strengthen the infrastructure of key hospitals within its communities as they address increasing patient admissions and hospitalization needs. Its efforts include the donation of ventilators, equipment for intensive care and safety kits for health professionals, as well as the construction and operation of a field hospital for the community in Monterrey, Mexico, with 100 beds and an intensive care unit.
